Free Initial Consultation

A private & confidential step so I can understand your perspective, what are the symptoms and what would you like to achieve. What does success mean for you?

This enables you to understand how the mind works and whether you’d like to commit to supportive sessions.

Listen to the audio

After your initial consultation, you’ll receive a relaxing audio recording to listen to at home. Alongside this, I’ll encourage you to start a simple but powerful habit: noticing the good things in your day.

This positive focus is a key part of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. By training your mind to recognise what’s working well, you begin to shift your perspective, reduce stress, and create the right conditions for change.

Our first therapy session together

You’ll need somewhere you can have a private and confidential conversation, and also somewhere you can comfortably lay down & relax for the hypnotherapy section. A typical session will be 25 minutes talking and 25 minutes hypnotherapy where you get to relax and let your mind consolidate the session.

Your Journey Forward

We continue until you are ready to have sessions separated by more than one week. Typically I work with clients for between 8 – 12 weeks. Thereafter, it’s completely up to you if you’d like a maintenance/top-up session every now and then.

FAQs

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

Typically between 6-12 sessions. Some clients may take longer whereas some clients are comfortable after a single session. It all depends on where you are, and how quickly your mind is ready to change.

Do I need special equipment for online sessions?

As long as you can access a Teams meeting, you don’t need to download any software, the meeting invite will let you into the virtual meeting room and you’re ready to get started.

Is it safe? Are you insured?

It’s perfectly safe and one of the least intrusive methods of helping people find the skills & resources they need to make progress. I’m insured with Holistic Insurance including Public Liability Insurance.

What should I expect at my first session?

The first session is the initial consultation, this involved a confidential consultation for us to discuss what you’d like to work on. We’ll discuss how the mind works, and why it does what it does.

What is hypnotherapy, and how does it work?

There is no such thing as a hypnotic state. We can’t ‘see’ it on a brain scan. However, we can see the pattern of brain waves slowing down as individuals relax. This supports clients into a more resourceful state where their conscious mind can take a well earned break. Suggestibility increases, and this is why the hypnotherapy works so well with the talking therapy to support you to find your positive path forwards.

Will I be asleep or unconscious during a hypnotherapy session?

You’ll be fully aware during the session, and if you need to, you’ll pop back up and deal with whatever interrupted the session. You don’t need to consciously be aware of the entire session as your subconscious is always listening.

What conditions or issues can hypnotherapy help with?

It provides support for a range of symptoms from anxiety, depression, phobias and habit changes (e.g. smoking cessation).

What’s the difference between hypnotherapy and talking therapy?

Hypnotherapy and talking therapy are each less effective on their own. Talking therapy is a conversation between the conscious minds of the therapist and client. However, Hypnotherapy is a conversation between the therapist’s conscious mind and the client’s subconscious mind. By combining talking therapy with hypnotherapy you’re able to get the best from both styles, it’s more than the sum of its parts.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies, and it all depends on what you need to address and how willing and able you are to adopt the changes. Clients who have built strong resistance take longer to adopt changes. Typically the benefits are felt between 4-6 weeks and most clients have between 8-12 sessions.

Is online hypnotherapy as effective as in-person sessions?

Absolutely, in fact more and more people are opting for online sessions because it is just as effective and removes commute times & logistics.

Will I lose control or be made to do something embarrassing?

It’s been proven that hypnotherapy cannot make you do anything you don’t want to do. You’re perfectly safe, and the aim of session is to find what positive means for you, and how to take action.

What makes solution-focused hypnotherapy different?

This is a particular style of hypnotherapy bourn from David Newton’s dissatisfaction with the consistency of changes in clients using CBT and analytical techniques. Over time, he has been pivotal in developing the approach. The problem is only discussed in the initial consultation, thereafter it’s all about the solutions!

Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety or panic attacks?

Yes, studies have shown hypnotherapy is highly effective at supporting clients to reduce their symptoms, severity, duration & reoccurrence.

Is hypnotherapy safe if I have a diagnosed mental health condition?

It’s designed to support those with mental health conditions. The only conditions I can’t support are severe conditions like active psychosis, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. These conditions need medical support from a clinical psychiatrist.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy requires clients to be cognitively present and able to engage in a structured, goal-orientated conversation.

How do I know if hypnotherapy is right for me?

You’ve nothing to lose with a free initial consultation. Finding the right support for you involves a personal decision about whether I’m right for you. If you decide someone else can support you better, that’s absolutely fine.

Can children or teens benefit from hypnotherapy?

They can, and I’m happy to sign-post you to another qualified therapist. I work with clients who are 18 years old and above.
